Any United States citizen can receive one of the checks on the same day that the Administration sends it out. This makes life much easier for retirees receiving a benefit, SSI or otherwise. The important thing in these cases is that Social Security can send us the checks and we can receive them right away.
But not everyone receives a check on the same day. In order to receive a retirement, disability or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit, there is a fundamental requirement that must be met. Leaving aside the reason for the check and focusing only on the day of payment, Direct Deposit plays a key role.
In order to receive benefits at the same time the Social Security Administration sends the SSI, we must have Direct Deposit. Otherwise, we would have to wait several days to receive these benefits, which could ruin our household finances.
How to receive April SSI in March?
The key is in the collection method we choose. In this case, we should choose Direct Deposit in order to receive the money immediately in our pocket. This will mean that the April SSI payment will reach us in March. Receiving the SSI payment in the previous month can be a great financial relief for many families.
After activating Direct Deposit we don’t have to do anything, as the Social Security Administration sends the money without having to apply for it. Of course, we must have already accepted the SSI benefit in advance. If we do not have SSI accepted, we will not be able to receive it this month, but will have to wait until next month.
Why does Social Security send Supplemental Security Income earlier?
Supplemental Security Income is always sent out on the 1st of each month, but there are a few exceptions. When this day is a weekend or holiday, the Social Security Administration pays this benefit on the immediately preceding business day. For that reason, we may receive our April check in March.
However, if we do not activate Direct Deposit this advance money will not arrive. If we receive a regular bank transfer, the money will arrive in April itself. This is because the Administration will send the money on the 31st, but it will take 3 days to appear in the bank account.
No SSI payment in April?
Actually, there is an SSI payment in April, although many people think that this is not the case. As we have already mentioned, the payment is advanced to the month of March and many citizens may have it in advance. But that does not mean that the payment is not April. At the official level, the payment belongs to April, so we do have payment of this benefit on this day.
This is not the most common situation for Social Security Supplemental Security Income payments, but it is possible. In addition to the irregularity in the month of April, there are other months where we can find it. These months are July and October. So in those months we will not have a direct SSI payment, but it will arrive earlier to our pockets.
As we have already mentioned, there is nothing to worry about. SSI will reach all of your recipients regardless of Social Security’s payday. So you can receive the check on the 1st or the immediately preceding business day each month. And if you activate Direct Deposit, you won’t have to wait a day to receive it.
