If you live in the United States and are waiting to receive your Social Security check you may not be able to get it before Christmas. There is one group of beneficiaries who will not get a check for sure before this important date, but there is another group that may not get it as well, depending on the collection method chosen.
However, there are two groups that do get their payment in December before the December 25th date. These groups will have no problems to organize in an ideal way the Christmas, gifts and all the purchases of this time of the year. The rest of the citizens should plan ahead for all their purchases, as they may not be able to cash their retirement check until much later.
That’s why organization and everything related to saving money is so important. If we know ahead of time that we will get a late Social Security check, we can buy all the gifts early and have peace of mind by the time Christmas Day rolls around. Even so, the fastest cashing method can always help us, so it’s a good idea to choose it.
WHICH GROUP OF RETIREES WILL GET THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY BEFORE CHRISTMAS?
There are a total of four Social Security check mailing dates in the month of December, as is customary in these cases. In this month’s case, we find that two groups of retirees will get their money before December 25th.

These two groups are as follows:
- Group 1: pre-1997 retirees. This group gets their payment in December on the 1st of the month.
- Group 2: post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month. This group of beneficiaries receives their Social Security check on December 13th, so even without Direct Deposit they can get payment before Christmas.
In addition to this we also find that another group will be able to get check before Christmas if they have Direct Deposit activated. That group is group 3 retirees, who are beneficiaries with Social Security since after 1997 with a birthday between the 11th and 20th of the month. The payment day for this grupo is December 20th.
In short, the only group of retirees who will not be able to collect before Christmas is post-1997 beneficiaries with a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month. This group could get the check on December 27th.
WHEN DOES THE DECEMBER SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME ARRIVE?
In the month of December, in addition to the Social Security payment that will arrive on the 1st, 13th, 20th or 27th of the month, depending on the group to which we belong, there are two extra checks for a specific group of Americans.
That group is the one that has the Supplemental Security Income benefit accepted. In the case of having it, we will get a check on the 1st of December and another one on the next 29th of the same month. So we can get a maximum of $914 on one side and a maximum of $943 on the other because the COLA will be added to the last of these payments.
Still, only one of the payments will arrive before Christmas, so we will not have the money available for purchases of this style. So, we are looking at an extra payment, but an extra payment that will be a little late.
