The United States Social Security Administration does not only send retirement checks to Americans. In addition to this payment there are other different benefits from this organization. The government sends out many different checks and Supplemental Security Income is one of them.
In order to collect this payment we must be eligible. And in order to be eligible we have to meet certain requirements. Similarly, the Supplemental Security Income benefit payment has increased from 2023. This increase is due to the COLA.
So Supplemental Security Income payments could have an increase of up to $29 in this year 2024. So if you receive one of these benefits you could get an extra $29 in March, just as you did in January and February.
How to apply for Supplemental Security Income in March?
The payment of this benefit will be made on the 1st of the month, as usual. The Supplemental Security Income check always arrives on the 1st day of the month, with some exceptions. When that day is a holiday or weekend, the Social Security Administration sends the checks on the immediately preceding business day.

For that reason, we sometimes encounter two different payments of this check in one month. And for that same reason we find that in some months we do not get one of these payments because we have collected the check early.
To be eligible to get the monthly Supplemental Security Income we must have two requirements. First, we must be 65 years of age or older or have a disability. It doesn’t matter if we meet one requirement or the other. It is also possible to meet both, of course, but meeting only one of them is enough.
On the other hand, it is necessary to have low monthly income as well as low resources. The final check sent by the Supplemental Security Income Administration will depend on this income. The lower the income, the larger the monthly check.
The maximum Supplemental Security Income payment as of today is $943, which is an increase of $29 over last year’s payment 2023. So if you have this benefit accepted and are waiting to get the payment, in March you will have the COLA added, as in previous months. If you are thinking of applying you should check if you are eligible and then apply.
