The first of the Social Security payments for post-1997 retirees arrived in United States bank accounts yesterday. Even so, there are many United States citizens who have not yet gotten this benefit.
And the fact is that the Social Security check arrives sooner or later depending not only on the group to which we belong, but also on the collection method chosen. Therefore, if we have not chosen the fastest collection method, we may not have the check available yet.
In case we are waiting to get the check on March 13th there is still time to have it in our bank account. Everything will depend on several factors. If we control these factors we will be able to know if we have the check available or not.
Even so, it is also true that we could be part of this group of retirees and not have gotten the check. This is because there is a problem with our benefit. In that case, we should claim the payment from Social Security as soon as possible.
How do I claim my late Social Security payment for March 13th?
The first thing we have to do is to find out if this payment is really for us. To do this, we must check the requirements of this March 13th payment. On the one hand, it is mandatory to have the benefit since after 1997. On the other hand, you must have your birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month.
If you choose Direct Deposit as the collection method, the payment will arrive as soon as possible. This will speed up the process of collecting the benefit. If we have it active, the money should have arrived in our checking account yesterday.
If we do not have the payment in our current account, then we have to claim the payment. To do this, we must follow two steps:
- First we have to claim it from our bank. Sometimes the bank can hold the money for many different reasons. So before we do anything else we should talk to our bank.
- Contact Social Security. Only in the case that we have contacted our bank before we should contact the Administration.
It is important to keep in mind that in order to contact Social Security we must first contact the bank. So we should not talk directly with the Administration, but as a last option.
