On January 23rd, 2023, the tax campaign in the United States began. Since that day, taxpayers can send their Tax Return to the IRS by any of the available means. After sending a Tax Return, taxpayers have to wait a few days to receive the Tax Refund or, at least, for the IRS to accept the proposed Tax Refund.
The general rule for these cases is that U.S. taxpayers must wait 21 days to receive the Tax Refund from the IRS. However, millions of Americans are wondering if there is a problem with their Tax Return, and that is that they still have not received their money despite having sent their tax return more than 21 days ago.
In these cases taxpayers start to get nervous, and whenever the IRS takes a long time to issue the Tax Refund it can be a sign that something is not right. However, this does not have to be the case. Moreover, this does not have to mean that the Tax Refund has been lost, as the IRS may simply need more time to send it out.
Why is the IRS taking longer to send my Tax Refund?
It may be because the IRS has to check certain information on the Tax Return. Depending on the type of documentation we have sent and if we have applied for an attorney’s tax credit. Applying for the Tax Child Credit is very helpful because it grants a good amount of money to taxpayers, but it can delay the speed of the issuance of the Tax Refund check.
So you still have to wait for the IRS to issue your Tax Refund, since the Tax Season is still in effect and the waiting time is the usual. However, if in the month of May we do not hear about our tax money, we should be concerned. It is still too early to determine if our Tax Refund is late or not.
Speed up the Tax Refund process
The IRS issues the Tax Refund when it accepts that our Tax Return is correct. However, in order to speed up the whole process we can do several things:
- Pay a lot of attention when sending the documentation. Do not make mistakes in the documentation that may delay the IRS work.
- Choose to refund through Direct Deposit. The physical check can take from 6 to 12 weeks to arrive at our address.
- Issue the Tax Return electronically. Nowadays we have many options to issue the Tax Return without the need to send the physical documentation to the IRS. This will speed up the process a lot.
After doing all this, the Tax Return process through the IRS will be faster. Even so, the average wait is 21 days from the time the IRS receives our Tax Return, so we should always wait to receive it.
