When we start receiving Supplemental Security Income payments in the United States we always have to keep in mind the day we will get each payment. Every month, the Social Security Administration will send out each of these checks. This is true with a few exceptions.
And when we run into one of these exceptions we may be in the situation where we will get two Supplemental Security Income checks in the same month. Within the May Social Security payment schedule we will run into this exception, so we could get two benefits within the days of May.
How do I get two Supplemental Security Income payments in May 2024?
In order to get a check for this benefit we have to have the payment previously accepted. This means that if our benefit is in the process of being accepted, we will not be able to get the money in May. In that case we will have to wait a little while to get the next Supplemental Security Income payment.
Keeping in mind that the first requirement is to have SSI accepted, the other requirement is very simple. The second important requirement is to have Direct Deposit activated. Thanks to this collection method, we will be able to have the SSI benefit check on the same day it is mailed.
With this collection method we will be able to get both payments within the days of the month. Otherwise, the second payment, which will be sent on May 31st, 2024, will arrive a few days later. The important thing is to have Direct Deposit activated and also to have the Supplemental Security Income already accepted.
Can I increase my monthly Supplemental Security Income benefit?
Actually, Supplemental Security Income checks can be increased slightly. The benefit is capped at $943 per month, so we can’t get more than that check per month. But it is true that Social Security may pay us a little more money.
Ultimately, the SSI check depends on our monthly income. The more income we have, the less Supplemental Security Income we get. And the other way around works the same way, so the SSI check can go up if our monthly income goes down.
But there is nothing we can do voluntarily to increase or decrease our monthly Supplemental Security Income payment. The check will depend on our income, so Social Security will be responsible for sending a higher or lower check each month.
