The day on which each retired citizen of the United States gets one of his Social Security checks depends on certain elements. To be exact, the two conditions we must take into account are the year of retirement on the one hand and the day of the birthday on the other.
With this information we will be able to mark on each month’s calendar the time when we get our Social Security retirement check. And the most striking of all is that it is also possible to get these payments under these conditions if our benefit is for Disability.
Next Social Security Payment in May and Requirements
The new payment from the Social Security Administration is for Group 2 retirees. This group is composed of all types of retirees, although they must meet two mandatory requirements. The collection day for this benefit will be May 8th, 2024.
To be part of Social Security group 2 we need:
- Have a benefit as of May 1997.
- Have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
Just meeting these two requirements is enough to qualify for payment on this day. However, if we do not have Direct Deposit activated, the payment will not arrive immediately; we will have to wait a few days to have the money available. The rest of the retirees who do not meet these requirements will have the payment soon as well.
Remaining Social Security Payments in May 2024
The May 8th Social Security check is not the last one for the entire month. After that day, the Administration will send payments on the 15th and 22nd of the month. Therefore, we are faced with two new payments for those retirees who meet certain requirements.
The payment on May 15th will be only for group 3 retirees. If we want to be part of group 3 of beneficiaries we will need to fulfill two requirements. Those requirements are to have the benefit since May 1997 and to have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
Finally, on May 22nd the Administration will send the last retirement payment for this month. This payment will be for group 4, that is, for retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month, as well as a benefit from May 1997.
Also, on the 31st of May there is an extra payment of Supplemental Security Income for the month of June. The payment comes early because the Administration does not send payments on holidays and weekends. Since June 1st is a weekend, this Social Security check will arrive early.
