Each new month the Social Security Administration sends new checks to beneficiaries with a disability. The schedule for these benefit payments is announced well in advance so that retirees in the United States can know when they are collecting their retirement.
And in this regard, each retiree can get one retirement payment per month. This is always the case with minor exceptions. Similarly, we find that Disability beneficiaries may also collect an extra check, but this is not always the case.
It all depends on the condition of the Disability beneficiary. The Social Security Administration sends four different checks each month to retirees, but also sends an extra check to a specific group of Americans.
Can I get two Disability payments in the same month?
The short answer is no, you cannot get two disability payments in the same month. The long answer is no, but you can get an extra check. This other extra check is not for every SSDI retirement, but it is available to SSDI recipients.
The extra payment is called Supplemental Security Income and to get it we just have to meet some requirements set by the Social Security Administration. These are the requirements:
- Have low resources, as well as low monthly income.
- Be 65 years of age or older or have a disability.
Even so, it is not mandatory to have a disability benefit to obtain this extra check. Likewise, it is not mandatory to be retired to get this Supplemental Security Income payment. If the benefit is accepted, the payment will arrive on the 1st of each month.
What is the monthly amount of Supplemental Security Income?
The maximum Supplemental Security Income payment is $943 per month. But this maximum payment is not for all beneficiaries. Keep in mind that this is the maximum check, so the payment is usually less than this amount.
The final check will depend on the beneficiary’s monthly income. A beneficiary with low monthly income will have a larger Supplemental Security Income check. If you have a disability benefit, the payment is compatible.
So check to see if you are eligible for Supplemental Security Income and apply for it. It is certainly a good supplement to the Social Security Disability benefit.
