With each new month that begins, the Social Security Administration sends new checks to beneficiaries in the United States. But not only that, but the Administration can also accept new checks so that certain United States citizens can enjoy a new monthly benefit.
And those Americans who meet certain requirements will be able to directly enjoy a check for up to an extra $943 each month. This check is individual, so each beneficiary gets a different benefit. Also, it is not mandatory to be retired with Social Security to get this monthly benefit, but both payments are compatible.
Eligibility for the extra $943 in Social Security benefits
The extra payment of up to $943 from Social Security that we are talking about is Supplemental Security Income. This extra benefit can reach many households in the United States although those Americans may not know it.
It is a good idea to check the requirements to see if we have access to this benefit. The requirements to get Supplemental Security Income each month are:
- Have a disability or be over 65 years of age.
- Have low resources, as well as low monthly income.
It is mandatory to meet both requirements, so if we do not meet one of them we will not be able to obtain this benefit of up to $943 from Social Security. The Administration studies each case individually, so we can apply for the payment and wait until the Administration accepts it.
When do these extra Social Security payments arrive?
The collection date for this Supplemental Security Income benefit is the 1st of each month, with some exceptions. Whether or not you get it on the same day depends on whether or not you have Direct Deposit activated. If we do not have Direct Deposit activated, the payment arrives within a few days after the payment is sent.
However, when the 1st day of a month is a holiday or weekend, the check does not arrive on the 1st day of that month, but on the immediately preceding business day. Therefore, the payment of this benefit may be double in one month if the following month has the 1st as a holiday or weekend.
Even if we are in this situation, we will not actually get an extra payment, but will get the check a little earlier. So pay attention to everything related to the timing of the payments because in some months we might get this Social Security payment early.
