Social Security Disability benefit payments have a maximum check each new year. This maximum amount increases each new year that begins thanks to the COLA announced by the United States Government. Therefore, each new year that begins we will get a little extra money with the benefit.
However, we may find that sometimes the COLA is 0%, although that is not common in these cases. It is usual for the Social Security Disability payment, as well as any other type of benefit, to increase at the beginning of each year. And this April we have the 2024 COLA included in the monthly benefit.
How to get the Disability payment with the COLA included?
In the month of April, as in all other months of 2024, Social Security Disability payments have increased by 3.2%. This is the COLA that the United States Government has declared through inflation for the previous year 2023.
This means that our Social Security payment has increased by 3.2% over the previous year’s check. So whatever your April check was from the previous year, this year you get a little extra money.
And best of all, you won’t have to do anything to get this extra money. The COLA increase is fully automatic. This makes every single payment increase immediately and automatically. So no matter what retiree group you belong to and whether your benefit is Disability or not you will have that increase in your monthly check.
Who gets the next Disability payment?
Next week’s check will be only and exclusively for Group 3 Social Security retirees. This group is made up of beneficiaries of all benefit types. In other words, Disability and non-Disability retirees can get a check.
The payment day will be April 17th and we will need to meet two requirements to collect this payment. On the one hand, we will need to have applied for the benefit as of May 1997. On the other hand, it is mandatory to have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
Only in this way will we be able to receive this benefit, although it is true that the type of retirement does not matter in order to get the payment. So if your payment is for Disability, retirement due to age or widowhood, you will get it equally if you are part of this group.
