Social Security retirement payments will end in January 2024. The retirement payments schedule will have no more days for benefit recipients in the United States. So you should pay attention to the requirements to find out if you will actually have access to this payment or will have to wait until February to get a new check.
Regardless of the type of benefit we have we can get this retirement check. Social Security payments arrive each month to each and every beneficiary who has a check accepted. So if you are a United States retiree waiting to get your January check you may be among the group of retirees who get paid on the last day.
However, we have to take a good look at the requirements, since it could be the case that our check should have arrived in the previous weeks and we have not received it yet due to a punctual delay. In that case we should claim the payment from Social Security as soon as possible. If we don’t, we may not get our January check or we may get it much later.
Who gets the last Social Security payment for January?
The payment of up to $4,873 from Social Security may arrive only to a specific group in the next week. The exact day the money will be sent will be January 24th and only retirees belonging to group 4 will be able to get this benefit. In order to be part of group 4 retirees, two requirements must be met.
As we have commented before, without fulfilling these requirements we will not be able to obtain the benefit of this day. Therefore, we have to be very attentive to these conditions. If we do not meet them, it will mean that the money should already be in our current account, since the payment on the 24th is the last one in January.
The requirements to belong to group 4 and, therefore, to collect this check are:
- To have a benefit after 1997. This requirement is also indispensable to collect Social Security on other days. Within the group of post-1997 retirees there are three different groups and this January 24th is the last of these groups.
- You must have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month. There is no other birth date requirement. Only the day of the birthday matters, so both the year of birth and the month of birth do not matter in determining whether we belong to group 4 or not.
Remember that the payment of up to $4,873 can be much less. Social Security payments are individual, which results in each retiree having a totally different amount. You could collect either the maximum check or an average check of around $1,800. It all depends on your own work history. What is certain is that if you belong to group 4 the Administration will send you the check on the next January 24th.
In the case of activating Direct Deposit we will be able to have the check immediately in our pocket. Remember that if you do not activate this method of payment the money will take a few days to arrive. Therefore, activating it can be key to have a better organization at home.
