One of the great obligations of United States citizens is to pay taxes every year. And although the IRS offers a lot of time within the Tax Season, the truth is that sometimes we might have problems to do it on time. For that reason, there is the possibility of getting an extension of time totally free of charge.
If we think that we will not have enough time to send the Tax Return during the Tax Season, it is possible that requesting an extension of time is a good solution. Only this way we will be able to send the Tax Return later to the IRS and at the same time pay the mandatory taxes without any penalty.
Of course, we have to request the extension of time in advance. If for some problem we do not obtain it, we should pay the taxes before. That is to say, we can request the extension of time and possibly we will obtain it, but it can also be that the IRS does not grant us this advantage. In that case, we should send the Tax Return before the end of the Tax Season.
How to get the IRS Tax Season extension?
To do so, we must access the official IRS website and from there access the Extension of Time of file section. Through this web page we will be able to have access to the mandatory forms to be able to do this procedure.

Likewise, we must also choose if we are individuals or if we have to request the extension of time for companies and businesses. The important thing is to choose the right form and send it to the IRS as soon as possible.
Even so, we must keep in mind that, according to the official IRS website:
- An extension of time to file your return does not grant you any extension of time to pay your taxes.
- You must calculate and pay the taxes due within the usual time frame to avoid possible penalties.
- You must file your request for an extension no later than the regular due date of your return.
- Taxpayers in certain disaster areas do not need to file an extension electronically or on paper. Check your eligibility and the due date of your return.
Once we request this extension of time to the IRS we will have 6 more months to send the Tax Return. Even so, we must keep in mind that there are many important aspects, and that is that if we have to pay taxes we must do it regardless of whether we request the extension or not.
