In the month of December, Social Security beneficiaries could get two different extra checks granting up to $1,857. Beneficiaries in the United States who can get this check do not have to be necessarily included in the group of Social Security retirees.
By this we mean that it is not necessary to be a retiree to obtain these two payments, but they are two payments that can perfectly complement the retirement check. And when we talk about retirement we also refer to disability payments and the rest of the Social Security checks.
In the case of being able to collect these two extra payments it is necessary to take into account several aspects. One of these aspects is that one of these checks is larger than the other. It is also important to note that although the Social Security Administration will send the checks in December, not all beneficiaries will receive a check in December.
Therefore, it is a good idea to be aware of all the aspects if we want to avoid problems regarding the receipt of the money. In order to get it on time we only need to take into account a couple of elements. So this check will be available to almost all beneficiaries twice in December.
WHEN WILL THE FIRST EXTRA SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK ARRIVE IN DECEMBER?
In just a few hours the Administration will send out the new Social Security check in December. This check is none other than the Supplemental Security Income check with a maximum amount of $914. It is the last of the checks with this amount, since after this day the payments will reach up to $943 in 2024.
If Direct Deposit is activated, we will be able to cash the money at the same moment, i.e. on the 1st of the month. However, without this method of collection it is possible that the money will not arrive until next week, since there is a weekend right after the payment, which means that the check may arrive more slowly to the pocket.
This payment will not reach all citizens with a Social Security check. In order to receive this payment, it is mandatory to have your Supplemental Security Income check accepted in advance. This is the only way to get the payment on December 1st.
In addition to that, on the same day of December 1st pre-1997 retirees can get a new retirement check worth up to $4,555, but that is only for this first group of retirees. So if you have SSI and a pre-1997 Social Security check on the 1st you will get all your checks for the month.
WHEN WILL THE SSA SEND THE SECOND EXTRA CHECK FOR DECEMBER?
In addition to the Supplemental Security Income payment this December 1st, the Social Security Administration will send another extra check for this benefit in the last month of the year. However, this check does not actually belong to the December calendar.
This payment is actually the first of the 2024 payments. The payment will arrive in December to beneficiaries who have Direct Deposit activated. If we do not have this activated, the payment may not arrive in this month, but we will get it in January.
Likewise, we must also take into account that the payment will include the COLA of 2024, which makes the check a maximum of $943 and not $914 as we have seen so far. The exact day of mailing will be December 29th. Whether you get it on that day or not will depend on the chosen method of collection.
