If you are on the list of United States beneficiaries you could be getting a new check very soon. The Social Security Administration will send the payment in just a few weeks. This payment is related to Social Security retirement, but you are not required to retire to apply for it.
Still, the two payments are fully compatible and many Americans consider this check part of their monthly benefit. Even so, Supplemental Security Income is fully compatible with the Social Security retirement check, but independent. We could request both payments separately and get only one of them.
Regardless of whether we also apply for Social Security or not, we could apply for the Supplemental Security Income check. We only need to meet a couple of mandatory requirements. If we meet them, the payment of this benefit will be assured on a month-to-month basis, but not the amount. The total amount of money we will get each month from this benefit could change.
Who can get an extra $943 from Social Security?
In order to get one of these wonderful Social Security checks that grant a maximum of $943 we must meet two conditions. The first of these conditions is none other than having low resources. Likewise, we also need to have a low monthly income. If we want to qualify for this benefit we must justify both situations with official documentation.

But this is not the only requirement to qualify for the Supplemental Security Income benefit. You also need to be 65 years of age or older. Although there is a way to obtain the payment without being that age. If we have a documented disability we are also eligible for the payment no matter how old we are.
So our Supplemental Security Income check with a maximum payment of $943 will arrive each month if we meet those requirements. Remember that the Social Security Administration looks at each case on an individual basis. So this means that if we don’t meet the requirements and don’t show that we can apply for the payment we will never get it.
How do I get a higher Supplemental Security Income?
As we have already mentioned, in order to obtain Supplemental Security Income it is mandatory to have a low monthly income. And based on that income, the Social Security Administration determines what our benefit is. The higher the monthly income, the lower the Supplemental Security Income check.
In this sense, it is possible to increase your Supplemental Security Income check, but it is not possible to do so voluntarily. If our monthly income goes down, our SSI payment can go up. We can ask for an increase by showing that our finances have worsened.
Still, it is important to know that if our SSI payment goes up it means we have a lower monthly income, so that is not good news. So it is much better not to get a higher SSI payment in this situation.
Likewise, the Social Security Administration could decrease our monthly Supplemental Security Income benefit. If we start having higher monthly income, our SSI check will stop being as large. So we might get a different SSI payment every few months.
