In the next few hours, the Social Security Administration will send what will be the last of all the checks for the month of May. Even so, it is true that the payment of this benefit does not correspond to May, but to the June payment schedule. This is important because if we get the May 31st payment we will not have access to Supplemental Security Income in June.
One thing to keep in mind at all times is that Supplemental Security Income payments are made once a month. Therefore, we would not be able to get two payments of this Social Security benefit in the month of June. We would only have one and we could get it early on May 31st, 2024.
How do I qualify for the extra Social Security payment?
The extra Social Security check corresponds to the Supplemental Security Income benefit. Therefore, we must have the benefit accepted in advance in order to get this monthly payment. The check for this benefit has two main requirements and if we do not have the payment accepted in advance we cannot get it on May 31st.
The requirements to get the extra Supplemental Security Income payment each month are to be 65 years of age or older or have a disability and, in addition, to have low resources. If we meet both of these requirements, the extra Social Security payment will go into our pocket each month. But remember that the day of collection may change depending on certain irregularities in the calendar.
While it is true that the maximum payment is $943 per month, it is also true that each beneficiary gets a different benefit. The lower the beneficiary’s income, the higher the Supplemental Security Income benefit he or she will get. Likewise, the Social Security Administration may send a different check if the beneficiary’s income changes in certain months.
