Although the Social Security Administration announces payments for United States citizens with a disability well in advance, sometimes those payments arrive later than usual. It is true that the payment schedule does not change and follows the schedule announced at the beginning of the year, but a small irregularity can apparently alter the day the payments are sent.
Thus, the post-1997 groups of beneficiaries get their payments in December a little later than they are used to. Although the payment actually arrives on the second Wednesday of the month, for all practical purposes the payment actually arrives later. Social Security sent the first payment on the 1st and it is not until the 13th that they sent a second check.
It is true that we are on the second Wednesday of the month for this payment, just as we will be on the third Wednesday in September for the next check, but if you look at the third and fourth weeks respectively. And this may not seem like a big deal, but it makes a big difference to Social Security disability beneficiaries’ plans.
WHEN WILL THE NEXT DISABILITY PAYMENT ARRIVE AND WHO WILL GET IT?
The next Social Security disability payment will arrive on December 20th. This payment will not be for all beneficiaries, as two mandatory requirements must be met in order to get it. The Administration will send it on that day, but getting it instantly or a little later will depend on the beneficiary himself.
Even so, we are looking at a week later than usual. The payment on the 20th day corresponds to the third Wednesday of the month, yes, but it is the fourth week. As this irregularity occurs we can see that the payment is much later than usual. In some cases there are up to 5 days difference with other months.
This can be a major setback for some citizens, which is why it is so important to activate Direct Deposit as a payment method. If we do not activate this way of getting the benefit it is possible that the payment will take even longer, as it could arrive on the 21st, 22nd or even 25th of December.
So it is really important to control this month’s payment, as it may arrive later than usual. In the event that we collect Social Security alone, whether for disability or for other reasons, we should pay close attention to the day on which we will get the payment. Remember that in order to get this payment it is necessary to have on one side the check since after 1997 and to have your birthday between the 11th and 20th day of the month.
ANOTHER SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT IN DECEMBER
The December 20th Social Security payment is not the last payment of the month. Before the end of the year, the Administration will pay another check on the 27th of the same month. Therefore, we are looking at a payment after Christmas that will reach the pockets of the beneficiaries.
In order to obtain the check for this last retirement payment of the month, it does not matter if the benefit is for disability or not. The important thing in these cases is to have had the check since after 1997 and, in addition, to have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month.
For retirees there will be no new checks this month, so we will have to wait until the following month, January, to be able to collect again. And next month we will have the payment with the COLA added, so the maximum Social Security will reach $4,700.
