The United States Social Security Administration is not the only agency that can send checks to citizens with a disability. In addition to the SSA, this group of Americans can claim other types of benefits that depend on other factors. What is certain is that the main benefits for this group of citizens are those linked to Social Security.
However, not all Americans with a disability can claim all of these benefits. Some of them have specific requirements and in order to have access to that money we are going to have to meet them all. Otherwise, we would not be entitled to get this money, since we would not fall into the eligibility group.
However, if we do not fall into one group of eligible citizens, we will always be able to fall into another. Most benefits are not exclusive, although they are compatible. Requesting a disability retirement benefit allows us to collect another type of check, so we can request more than one of these payments without problems.
Main benefits that citizens with a Disability can apply for
In all, there are usually three main benefits. Each of these benefits has its own requirements, so once we think we can apply for it we must check that we are eligible to be able to have it each month. The three benefits are Social Security Disability retirement, Supplemental Security Income and SNAP.
As we have already said, the three benefits are fully compatible. Still, having one does not mean that we will automatically get the other. We could also get all three payments at the same time or just one of them. Let’s look at the maximum checks and requirements for these three benefits:
- Disability Retirement. The Social Security Administration provides a maximum check of $3,822 in 2024 for this type of retiree. Obtaining this monthly payment has requirements and it is normal for the payment not to reach such a high figure. This check is compatible with practically all the stimulus checks and all the benefits that we could request on a monthly basis.
However, in order to obtain this check we will need to prove with official documentation that we have a disability. Without this official medical documentation we will not be able to get this check every month. Also, we may not be able to lose the benefit payment in the event that we recover our health if that is possible. - Supplemental Security Income. The monthly check for this benefit is $943. This payment is only for citizens over 65 years of age or citizens with a disability. It is not mandatory to have a retirement check, but it is compatible. In addition, it is also necessary to have low monthly income as well as low resources.
- SNAP Food Stamps. Americans with a disability who meet all other requirements may apply for SNAP Food Stamps every month. The purpose of this benefit is to give Americans a little extra money to buy fresh food. The maximum check on an individual basis is $281 per month.
If you have a high Social Security retirement check, you cannot apply for Supplemental Security Income or SNAP Food Stamps, since these two checks are only for the neediest Americans. However, it is possible to get these three checks for Americans with disabilities who do not have a high income.
