One of the great advantages of collecting a disability benefit in the United States is that we can know how much we will receive each month. Likewise, it is also possible to know on what day of the month we will receive each of the retirement checks, whether it is SSDI or another Social Security check.
In this sense, each check is very important because it directly helps the economy of retirees. Disability and other beneficiaries can know the payments they will get, so it is reassuring for them.
At the beginning of each new year, beneficiaries get an increase in their benefits. This is because the Cost Of Living Adjustment takes effect, which causes payments to increase by a different percentage each year. This year the percentage announced to increase disability benefits is 3.2%, so your payment will increase by that amount.
This means that all checks will see an increase. All categories and all types of checks, so average checks will also see an increase. Also, the maximum checks may reach a new amount in this year 2024. Do you already know how much of your disability check you will receive in 2024?
Average amount of Social Security Disability in 2024
Until recently, the disability benefit check for a beneficiary with a spouse and one or more children averaged $2,636 per month. This amount will no longer reach that figure and will be higher. Beginning with the first Social Security payment in January 2024, the average payment for the above category will be $2,720 per month.
This amount could change throughout the year, as we are talking about an average benefit, so the average is calculated each month based on the total benefits and benefit amounts sent monthly by the Administration.
On the other hand, if the benefit we are talking about is for a lone disability beneficiary, the check could reach $1,537. This means that we will get a bigger check than in 2023, since this year’s payment averaged $1,489 in recent months.
Who will collect the next SSDI Social Security payment?
In January 2024 all beneficiaries who have an accepted Disability benefit will be able to get their check on one of four payment days. Each of these days is assigned to a specific group of beneficiaries. Still, remember that you must meet all the requirements.
The next check is tomorrow, January 3. This payment is for retirees with a benefit, either SSDI or a different category, is for beneficiaries prior to 1997. If your check is prior to that year, you will be able to get your payment on January 3rd without any problems.
On the other hand, post-1997 retirees will receive their checks on different days. January 10th will be for retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month. Beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th will get their payment on the 17th of January and, finally, the 24th of this month is for retirees in this group born between the 21st and 31st of the month.
Remember that these are the days on which the Social Security Administration sends out the check. Whether or not we get it on this day depends on whether or not we have Direct Deposit activated. This collection method ensures that the check is immediately deposited in the checking account on the same day it is sent.
