For anyone in the United States, receiving a monthly Social Security check requires meeting certain requirements. Not all Americans can start collecting a monthly benefit. If we meet the requirements, we can get the benefit. If not, we will not be able to claim it, at least for the time being.
Because some of these requirements have to do with age, many retirees who cannot currently qualify will be able to get their retirement check in the future. Having a monthly Social Security check is the best way to ensure a good future and a perfect golden years.
Yet, many citizens who reach the minimum age for Social Security are unable to apply for it. This is due to the fact that it is not only mandatory to reach a certain number of years before starting to enjoy retirement. There are other indispensable requirements that, if not met, we will never be able to receive our benefits.
Who cannot apply for Social Security?
As we have already mentioned, it is essential that we meet certain requirements before applying for Social Security. So if we don’t meet them we won’t get our monthly check. These are the Americans who cannot receive a pension check:
- Americans who have not worked a minimum of 10 years. Age retirement requires working 10 years before you start collecting the benefit. If we have not worked that long, we could apply for a disability benefit if we qualify, but not age retirement.
- Citizens under age 62. The minimum age to apply for a Social Security retirement check is 62. Earlier is impossible, except in the case of some disabled citizens.
If we are not in one of these groups, we will be able to claim our Social Security retirement benefit. Keep in mind that we are talking about the age retirement benefit. There are other types of benefits that are not required to meet all of the above.
In the case of applying for a disability or survivor benefit, the requirements change. You can use Best Tool if you want to know all of these requirements.
When is the next retirement check coming to Americans?
The next of Social Security’s age-based retirement checks will arrive on April 12. But this check is not for all Americans. Only those born between the 1st and 10th of the month will be able to receive this benefit.
Also, remember that not only age pensioners will be able to enjoy this check. Any other beneficiary who has a benefit with Social Security will enjoy this amount.
The only main requirement is to have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month. To this we must add that we must have a previously accepted Social Security benefit, of course.
