Do you suffer from heartburn? This unpleasant feeling is caused by a pH that is too acidic. One solution is bicarbonate, with its alkaline chemical formula, which regulates the acidity of the mucous membranes and provides rapid relief.
The recipe is to dilute one teaspoon in a large glass of water. Then you have to drink it slowly, even if the salty taste is not very pleasant. Beware of small «spills», the chemical reaction will release CO2. In addition, this recipe also helps to manage nausea.
Tip: if you like starchy foods, vegetables like cabbage are a good ally. Keep in mind that this food has difficulty in digesting them, so you should add a spoonful of sodium bicarbonate to its cooking water.
Relieves an insect bite or a small burn
Sodium bicarbonate can soothe the bites of mosquitoes, fleas, ticks…
The recipe for relieving this bite is to make this paste, which is easy to apply: mix 2 to 3 measures of sodium bicarbonate, one measure of water or sweet almond oil. Once we have the paste, rub it on the affected part.
For biting insects or ticks whose heads remain under the skin, consult a pharmacist or doctor. As a preventive measure, sprinkle sodium bicarbonate on carpets and animal cushions (1 to 2 tablespoons/m2 ) to discourage mites, fleas and ticks.
For sunburn or superficial burns, make the same recipe in a compress, to be applied to the skin, thus causing a soothing effect.
Combats dental plaque
Sodium bicarbonate is ideal for getting rid of food debris between the teeth that causes cavities. By neutralizing acids (as it does in the stomach), it fights plaque and freshens breath at the same time. It can be used as a mouthwash. Plus, it whitens teeth!
The recipe: a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in a glass of water.
Relieves mouth sores and gums.
Sodium bicarbonate is also very effective for treating mouth sores or painful gums. This relieves pain and aids in healing. It is applied to the sore by putting Sodium bicarbonate directly on the tip of the finger before covering the sore. It is also recommended as a mouthwash.
The recipe: dilute one tablespoon of powder in half a cup of cold water.
Cure the mushrooms
The antifungal effects of bicarbonate are particularly well known in the treatment of fungal infections. Just before putting on your socks or stockings, remember to spray the fungus on your feet. The powder will absorb the moisture produced during the day. You can also bathe your feet regularly.
The recipe: dilute 4 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate in one litre of warm water and soak your feet in it for 15 minutes.
Sodium bicarbonate: are there any contraindications?
Although it is natural, sodium bicarbonate is by no means an insignificant product. It is out of the question to drink a large glass after each meal to digest (at the risk of seriously tiring the kidneys…) or to brush your teeth every day with a pinch of sodium bicarbonate (at the risk of damaging the enamel!). The key to good use is therefore moderation.
In addition, there are some (rare) contraindications:
Internal use of sodium bicarbonate is contraindicated in people suffering from heart failure. The same is true for people with kidney failure.
