As is customary for retirees in the United States, the Social Security Administration will send out a total of 4 different checks in the month of October. Each of these checks will go to a different group of retirees. In other words, a retiree cannot get two retirement checks in the same month, with some exceptions.
Before the end of October, the Administration will send two more checks. One of them is today and the other will be in just one week’s time. If we want to get one or the other, we must meet the requirements. It is important and fundamental that we take a good look at the requirements to determine if we are recipients of these Social Security benefits.
It is very common for retirees to have some confusion regarding the day of payment. Americans cannot collect more than one retirement check per month, whether due to disability, age or any other reason. We can add a Supplemental Security Income check, but this check is a totally different type of benefit.
If there is an irregularity in the schedule and a retiree also receives Supplemental Security Income, the number of checks received can be three. But of those three checks, only one is actually Social Security. The other checks are SSI and, therefore, do not pertain to retirement as such.
WHO GETS TODAY’S SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT?
Today, October 18th, 2023, there is a Social Security check mailing. This check mailing is for retirees who belong to the third group of beneficiaries. The type of benefit does not matter whether we will get a check or not. That is, it doesn’t matter if our check is for spouse, widow or widower, or disability.
The requirements to belong to one group of beneficiaries or another are related to the date of retirement and the day of birth. Thus, the beneficiaries who collect today are those who have a Social Security check after 1997 and a birthday between the 11th and 20th of the month.
Just by meeting these two requirements, we will be able to receive the payment today. If the conditions are not met, the payment will arrive on a different day. It is even possible that it is already on its way or that we already have it in our bank account, since the Administration sent payments on the 3rd and 11th of October.
ANOTHER SSA RETIREMENT PAYMENT IN OCTOBER
Today’s October 18th payment is not the last check the Social Security Administration sends out for the month. In addition to this payment and last October 3rd and October 11th, the Administration will send out a check on the 25th of the month. This will be the last check for all of October and only beneficiaries on the eligible list will be able to cash it.
To get the payment on the 25th day of the month, we must meet two requirements:
- Have the benefit after 1997, as is the case with the payments on the 11th and 18th of the month of October.
- To be between the 21st and 31st of the month.
With these requirements fulfilled, we will be within the eligibility list established by the Social Security Administration. After this check, we will have to wait until November to get another retirement payment and another check for Supplemental Security Income, if we are entitled to this other payment.
