Retirement can be an active time of your life, as much as any other previous one. It is true that sometimes many seniors start reducing their activities gradually. Most times, this change remains unnoticed. Therefore, it is important to have a schedule to make sure you make the most of your free time. Do not put it off because you might end up not doing anything at all.
Another thing you need to avoid is making up excuses. For sure, there will be days on which it will be snowy, too hot, or too rainy. But alternatives to these retirement plans should also be ready beforehand. For instance, keep those days of unpleasant weather for making calls, writing letters or postcards, or visiting a close friend or relative.
Have you ever tried birding as a retirement hobby?
Having good retirement plans does not mean spending lots of money. Try to make a list of the 20 birds you would like to spot. Look for places where there is nature around. Any quiet park with a lake will do. You can also look for bird societies in your area to get tips. If you take up birding, you can walk, be in contact with nature and get pleasure from seeing new bird species.
The second hobby could be photography. You may want to use the old camera you no longer use or a pair of binoculars you get at a charity shop. In this way, you can keep track of the species you see and enjoy them much more. Having a bird feeder is also great for having a closer look at birds around your home.
What about volunteering once you are retired?
There are many people who need help nowadays. Helping others can be really rewarding. If you are not brave enough to go on your own, you can always ask a friend to come along with you. It does not matter the task you do there, try different ones to see the one you like the most.
Did you know that gardeners are the group of people who suffer less from depression and anxiety? Even if you do not seem to be good at looking after plans, start with easy plants and ask for help from your friends or neighbors. It is another addictive and fun hobby for retirement.
