A widely used laundry detergent sold exclusively on Amazon is being voluntarily recalled across the United States due to possible contamination with a harmful bacteria. The product in question is Woolite Delicates Detergent, manufactured by Reckitt, and the recall affects approximately 16,200 bottles of the 50-fluid-ounce size.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a notice urging consumers to stop using the product immediately if it matches one of the affected lot numbers: S24364, S24365, or S24366. While the bacteria is unlikely to pose a threat to healthy individuals, it may lead to serious infections in people with weakened immune systems.
What bacteria was found and who is at risk?
The detergent may be contaminated with Pseudomonas oleovorans, a type of bacteria known to cause health issues in immunocompromised individuals. The CPSC emphasized that the risk is minimal for people with no underlying health conditions, but still advises discontinuing use out of caution.
Consumers are eligible for a full refund. To claim it, they must write their name and the word “Recalled” on the back of the bottle using a permanent marker, take a clear photo showing the UPC and lot code, and email it to ConsumerCare_USA@reckitt.com.
