Although the United States Federal Government has stopped sending stimulus checks, many States still pay financial help to their citizens. Through this help, eligible Americans can receive a varying amount of money to pay bills and make monthly purchases.
These stimulus checks vary widely today, as they are not the same checks Americans received as help last year. Still, many of last year’s stimulus checks are still on their way, so in the event your payment is in process check to make sure it gets to you right at some point.
As for this particular stimulus check it is worth noting that it is not Social Security related, but tax related. Therefore, the IRS has a lot to do with this new check that will come only for Minnesota citizens. The rest of Americans cannot apply for this check, since it is only for inhabitants of this state.
Who can receive this new stimulus check?
In addition to being a Minnesota resident, several requirements must be met in order to receive this stimulus check. In addition, the amount of the check will depend on the characteristics of the citizen and his or her Tax Return.
The requirements to be able to receive this stimulus check are:
- Being a resident of Minnesota in the year 2021. It is not mandatory to be a resident for the whole year, but for at least part of it.
- File a return for the 2021 attorney year with one of the following forms:
- Form M1. This is the Minnesota individual income tax.
- Form M1PR. This form is the form related to the refund of the homestead credit or on the tenant property tax.
- In addition to that, the return for the year 2021 must have been filed before the end of the year 2022 (December 31, 2022 as deadline).
Fulfilling these requirements we will be able to receive a check during the next months.
What is the amount of this financial help?
The amount we will receive from this stimulus check depends on the tax return itself. So, depending on the amount that we have declared, we will receive more or less money.
- The scale of the checks is as follows:
- Married couples filing jointly with gross income of $150,000 or less: $520 check.
- All other individuals with gross income of $75,000 or less: $260.
To this above must be added $260 for each dependent included on the tax return. With this stimulus check in effect the state of Minnesota returns part of the taxes paid to its citizens.
In case we want to apply for this stimulus check we must check that we are eligible through the Department of Revenue. In the event that we meet all the proposed requirements, it is possible that we will receive the check without going through any kind of process.
