Many United States citizens are unaware that they can combine their Disability Benefit (SSDI) with other types of payments. Whether it’s a different benefit, SNAP checks, or other income entirely, Americans on SSDI can collect money outside of retirement. But you have to watch out for this, as there are limits on this.
If you are currently collecting a Disability (SSDI) benefit and are collecting a paycheck at the same time, you should know that it is possible, but if you go over a certain limit you could lose your benefit. Sometimes beneficiaries do not lose their benefit, but they do lose part of it. It is necessary to know these limits to avoid unpleasant surprises in the future. The important thing in these cases is to have everything under control.
It is possible to collect more than one benefit, such as Disability (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income. And if Social Security accepts both benefits at the same time, you should have no problem collecting them at the same time. But there are limits to working while getting the Disability Benefit.
So pay attention to those limits to be able to collect your SSDI check without having financial problems. And if you exceed the limits, you may have to pay back part of your benefits in some cases. Are you working and getting the Disability Benefit at the same time?
LIMITS FOR WORKING AND COLLECTING SSDI
As we have already mentioned, it is entirely possible to work and collect the Disability Benefit (SSDI). The Disability Benefit is for those who are unable to perform a particular job. In other words, the beneficiary can try to work at all other jobs.
But there are certain limits. If we earn more than $1,470 dollars a month, we will lose part of our benefit. Likewise, it is also mandatory to work part-time. Therefore, we would not be able to work full time on a Disability Benefit (SSDI).
For blind beneficiaries, the maximum is $2,460 per month. Since each case is completely individual, it is best to consult directly with a Social Security office. They will be able to help us determine if we are going to exceed the monthly income limit that we can have while collecting one of these benefits.
CAN I COMBINE DISABILITY BENEFIT WITH OTHER BENEFITS?
Another big question is whether we can combine Disability Benefit (SSDI) with other benefits. And the answer is that in most cases yes, since even in many benefits one of the requirements is to have a disability.
If we look at the Supplemental Security Income payment, we have two requirements. One is to be 65 years of age or older or have a disability. The other requirement is to have low monthly income. So if our SSDI benefit is not too high we can claim this check.
Besides that, other payments like SNAP or even IRS stimulus checks are also compatible. However, we must watch out if we work at the same time, because in that case we could lose both the disability benefit and the other supplemental checks.
