Citizens who have a Social Security benefit at age 62 may be able to receive their United States pensioner’s pension. However, although it may seem that everyone can receive this check, that is not the case. Two requirements must be met in order to receive the payment. And the age of retirement or the citizen’s own current age has no bearing on the day of payment.
The two most important elements to determine whether we will receive the next payment or not are the date of retirement and the day of birth. But it does not matter the age of retirement and even less in which year they were born. Only the exact day of the month is the important date. Likewise, only the year in which you applied for Social Security retirement, but not the age at which you applied.
With this in mind it is easier to understand why not all 62-year-old retirees can receive every Social Security check. While it is true that this is true, it is also true that any retiree of any age can receive the next of the checks. Likewise, a citizen with a disability benefit can also receive one.
REQUIREMENTS FOR 62 YEAR-OLD RETIREES TO RECEIVE SOCIAL SECURITY
The requirements do not depend directly on the 62-year-old citizen himself. Therefore, there is nothing the retiree can do directly to receive the new Social Security payment. What he can do, however, is to check the calendar and learn on what day he will receive his money each month.
As for these requirements, these are the two mandatory ones: having retirement since after 1997 and having a birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month. As you can see, if a retiree does not meet these requirements originally there is nothing you can do about it. About the day of birth, it is important to know that neither the month nor the year matters, but only the day.
To have the ideas clearer, let’s look at the different payments that the Social Security Administration sends each month to retirees. These payments are divided into four different days and these are the details:
- Pre-1997 retirees. On the 3rd day of each month they receive their check, with some exceptions.
- Post-1997 retirees. There are three different days for payments of this benefit:
- Second Wednesday of the month: Social Security payment for retirees born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- Third Wednesday of the month: Retirees born between the 11th and 20th receive their benefit.
- Fourth Wednesday of the month: Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st receive their check on this day.
This makes it much easier to recognize on which day we will receive our benefit each month. As far as the next payment is concerned, the check will be on the 23rd of August and is the last one of this month in 2023.
