Through November 2024, millions of Social Security beneficiaries in the United States will get their scheduled payments, which are essential to meet their daily needs. Depending on when each retiree or beneficiary’s first benefit was issued, the payment schedule varies. While for most there will only be one deposit into their account, some lucky ones may get two payments in a single month. Not only that, but some may get as many as three different ones.
It is important to understand how Social Security payments and the various assistance programs offered by the government work. These programs, in addition to providing support for retirees, include help for people with disabilities and for those with low incomes who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). In this context, certain beneficiaries could get an additional payment in November.
If we are eligible for these payments we could have two payments in November, with the first SSI payment coming early in the month and the SSDI or other Social Security benefit payment coming in the middle.
Who could get two payments in November?
Beneficiaries who participate in both the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs have the potential to get two payments in November. This is because SSI payments are issued at the beginning of the month, while SSDI payments are distributed later in the month, depending on each beneficiary’s date of birth.
In particular, those beneficiaries who qualify for both programs (SSI and SSDI) will get their first SSI payment on November 1st, and their SSDI payment during scheduled dates later in the month. These two programs are complementary, and those who qualify for both can benefit from this double payment in the month of November.
On top of all that, we should also note that on November 29th we can get an extra Supplemental Security Income (SSI), causing us to get three different payments during the month if we have Direct Deposit activated as a collection method.
Key Payment and Eligibility Dates
Supplemental Security Income is paid on November 1st to all eligible recipients. SSDI payments, on the other hand, are scheduled according to the regular Social Security calendar: beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of the month will get their check on November 13; those born between the 11th and 20th will get their check on November 20; and those with birthdays between the 21st and 31st will get their payment on November 27.
For clarity, these are the days of the full November payment schedule:
- November 1: Supplemental Security Income payments for all Supplemental Security Income recipients.
- November 1: Retirees with a benefit prior to May 1997 can receive this payment.
- November 13: Retirees with post-May 1997 checks who have a birthday between the 1st and 10th collect on this day.
- November 20: Retirees with post-May 1997 checks with a birthday between the 11th and 20th get payment on this day.
- November 27: Retirees with post-May 1997 checks with birthdays between the 21st and 31st get payment this day.
- November 29: December Supplemental Social Security payment. This is because December 1 is a weekend.
It is critical that SSI and SSDI recipients keep their information up to date with the Social Security Administration to avoid delays in payments. This includes having correct banking information and making sure contact information is up to date.
