Only one group of beneficiaries will get their United States Social Security payment today. It is possible to receive this benefit only if we meet two mandatory requirements. But there is also a third extra requirement that makes it possible for us to get the payment today.
If we do not have this third extra requirement but we do have the other two requirements it is true that we could get the payment, but it is not certain to have the money today. Social Security will send the payments. Whether we get the money immediately or not will depend on whether we have the third requirement fulfilled.
Even so, the rest of the groups do not have to worry either, since each and every beneficiary always gets his or her benefit. The difference is simply in the day of payment. Some retirees receive their Social Security benefits earlier, while others get the money later. But keep in mind that you will always get a check every month.
The money may arrive on the 3rd day (with some exceptions) or on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month. Some personal information and the year of retirement are the key to determining the exact day the Social Security Administration will send a check to each group.
Requirements for today’s Social Security payment
As we have previously mentioned, there are two mandatory requirements to collect this benefit. And we are talking about this particular benefit on January 10th, 2024. The rest of the Social Security checks will have their own requirements, so we must check if we have access to this payment or not through these conditions.
The conditions to get today’s payment are:
- Have a Social Security retirement check (regardless of category) since after the year 1997.
- Have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
In addition to that, it is also important to take into account the third of the requirements. This requirement is:
- Activate Direct Deposit as a payment method.
If we meet the first of these requirements, the Social Security Administration will send our check today. If we meet the third requirement, we can have the money already available to use for whatever we need. The rest of the retirees will be paid in the following weeks.
When do I get my pension if I am not in this group?
All other Social Security beneficiaries can cash their checks on one of the other paydays. There are a total of four different payment days during the month. Other than today, January 10, there are three more checks, then. These are the remaining paydays.
- January 3rd. On this day retirees with benefits prior to 1997 collected their corresponding money.
- January 17th. Payment day for post-1997 retirees with a birthday between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- January 24. Post-1997 check retirees born between the 21st and 31st of the month have their benefit on this day.
Remember that you must activate Direct Deposit in order to get the payment immediately. Likewise, it is also necessary to keep in mind that if the day of payment of your check has already passed, you should claim it as soon as possible to Social Security to find out if there is a problem with your benefit.
