Although within the United States Social Security payment schedule it is not common to have two checks on the same day, sometimes this irregularity occurs. This is due to the fact that the calendar has some changes that force the Administration to send two different checks.
In spite of this, retirees who have one of these two checks should not have any problems receiving their money normally. In the same way, if we fulfill certain requirements, we will be able to obtain up to two different checks on the same day.
These two checks are for a maximum of $914 on one side and $4,555 on the other. Even so, obtaining a maximum of the sum of the two is impossible due to the requirements of one of them, which requires having a low source of income.
However, we can still get both checks even if we don’t get the maximum benefit. So check the requirements to see if you will have a chance to get two different Social Security payments on the same day in December. Will you get both December payments on the 1st of the month?
WHO WILL CASH TWO SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS ON THE 1ST OF DECEMBER?
The requirements for collecting two Social Security payments on the 1st of December are very simple. In fact, thousands of United States citizens will be able to get these two checks without any problems. Also, if you already meet the requirements, you won’t have to do anything special, so you will get the money without having to apply for it.
These are the requirements to cash two checks on the same day:
- Have Supplemental Security Income accepted.
- Have a Social Security check from before 1997.
- Activate Direct Deposit as a cashing method.
And there are no extra requirements, so with just those three, the money will be available on the same day, December 1st. Beneficiaries who have not activated Direct Deposit will also be able to collect these two payments at the same time, but not on the 1st, but on the following days.
The reason for this irregularity in the calendar is that the 3rd day of the month, the day assigned for Social Security for beneficiaries prior to 1997, is a weekend. And when we have this situation, the payment is advanced to the immediately preceding working day.
However, these two payments will not be the only ones for the month of December. After this day there will be up to 4 more days of payments. On December 13, 20 and 27 retirees will be paid with a post-1997 check. The birthday of each beneficiary will determine the exact day.
On the other hand, on December 29th we will have an extra Supplemental Security Income payment. This extra payment will be for those SSI recipients with Direct Deposit activated. The payment pertains to January 2024, so this year’s COLA will be added.
