The different payments that the Social Security Administration sends to beneficiaries in the United States arrive in their bank accounts depending on several factors. The day on which each American gets his or her benefit is totally different, and the Administration separates retirees into different groups to avoid failures and delays in these benefits.
Thus, retirees who have a Social Security benefit will not receive it this week in January if they do not meet the requirements. But there is nothing to worry about, as there are two more days of payments for these beneficiaries in January 2024, so they could still get one of these checks.
What is certain, however, is that there are thousands of retirees who still do not have Social Security money available to them. And while this may not necessarily be a red flag, it is true that we are dealing with a group of retirees who have not yet been able to get the money this month, something that could be a negative for retirees who have no other source of income.
Retirees not getting their Social Security checks this week
The beneficiaries who do not receive a Social Security check this week are those who belong to groups 1, 3 and 4. Therefore, it is mandatory to belong to group 2 of retirees in order to get a check these days. The payment date for this benefit is January 10, although it could arrive later depending on the method of payment chosen.
In any case, the important thing is to know what the requirements are for each of the groups. In this way we will be able to determine whether we get our retirement check this week or not. The groups are as follows:
- Group 1. Pre-1997 retirees. All retirees who have had a check since before this year are part of group 1 of beneficiaries.
- Group 2. Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- Group 3. Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of any month.
- Group 4. Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month.
In this regard, in order to get payment in this week, it is mandatory to belong to group 2. Therefore, retirees in this group must have Social Security since after 1997, as well as a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
The rest of the groups are paid on different days. What we should note is that group 1 already got their payment in January 2024 as well. This group received the benefit on January 3rd.
The rest of the retirees in the other groups will be paid on different days. On the one hand, group 3 retirees will collect their Social Security check on January 17th. Finally, the payment of group 4 beneficiaries will get their benefit on the 24th day of January in the year 2024.
Remember that these calendar days mark the time when the Administration sends the payment, but getting it earlier or later will depend on the collection method we activate. If we have the Direct Deposit activated, we will be able to have the money available at the same moment that the Administration makes the payment. Otherwise, we will have to wait a few days until we finally have this money available from Social Security to use it for whatever we need.
