Retirement benefit payments in the United States follow the pattern of a schedule that Social Security announces well in advance. This makes the financial side of life easier for U.S. retirees. Also, it does not matter what amount we have in our retirement check, as Social Security sends checks to all retirees equally.
However, there is a difference when it comes to cashing these checks. There are a total of three different groups of retirees. The Social Security Administration separates retirees into these groups based on their birthday. Thus, neither the reason for retirement nor the amount of the check really matters.
Therefore, the only important fact in determining whether we will receive the next of the Social Security checks is the day of the birthday. The checks arrive on different days to retirees born between the 1st-10th, 11th-20th and 21st-31st. So it’s easy to know which group we belong to just by knowing our birthday.
Who gets the next Social Security check?
The group of pensioners born between the 1st and 10th of the month is the one that receives the next Social Security check. This does not mean that the rest of the pensioners will not receive their benefits in February. The other groups of pensioners will receive their benefit, albeit in the following weeks.
Therefore, if your birthday is between the 1st and 10th of the month you will have a cheque available with your corresponding amount next February 8, 2023. This is the first of the Social Security Administration’s retirement-related payments this month. So when does the SSA send out the rest of the February checks?
February 2023 Retirement Calendar
The remaining days of the 2023 Social Security calendar:
- February 15th. This is the third Wednesday of the month and retirees born between the 11th and 20th receive their retirement benefit.
- February 22nd. Fourth Wednesday of the month. Retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month may receive SSA on this day.
It should be noted that not only old-age retirees receive Social Security on these days. Both the amount and the reason for retirement do not matter. All SSA pensioners need only look to the day of their birthday to determine on which Wednesday of the month they will collect their payment.
