Throughout the months, the Social Security Administration sends different checks to households in the United States. Citizens who are entitled to one of these benefits can receive the money on a specific day. Supplemental Security Income usually arrives on the 1st of each month.
However, it is actually on the 1st of each month that the Social Security Administration sends out a check for Supplemental Security Income. This does not ensure that everyone will receive a check on the same day. In order to get the benefit money, whether it is Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability or Retirement Age benefits, there is a requirement that must be met.
If we do not meet this requirement, we will not be able to have the money on the same day that the Social Security Administration sends it. So if you are eligible for Supplemental Security Income, you should be aware of this requirement so that you don’t receive your check late next May.
Why is the May Supplemental Security Income late?
Not all Americans who receive Supplemental Security Income will have the money available on the same day. In order to be eligible for this benefit on May 1st, there is one main requirement that must be met. This requirement is none other than having a particular collection method activated.
The Social Security Administration sends this check on the 1st of each month, with some exceptions. If we want to have the money on the same day, we must activate Direct Deposit. The group of Supplemental Security Income recipients who do not have this collection method activated will not get the money on the same day, but will have to wait up to 3 days to get it.
So just by activating Direct Deposit you will not only get this type of Social Security benefit sooner, but also any other check sent by the government. Whether it’s a disability pension, age pension or any other.
Complete March Social Security Payment Schedule
During the days of March, the Social Security Administration will not only send out Supplemental Security Income checks. In addition to this payment, U.S. citizens will also receive other benefits. Here is the complete schedule of May payments:
- May 1st. Supplemental Security Income payment.
- May 3rd. First Wednesday of the month. On this day, retirees with a pre-1997 benefit will receive their check.
- May 10th. Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month are paid on this day.
- May 17th. Disability or age-based retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th receive their benefit, provided they are retired after 1997.
- May 24th. Social Security beneficiaries with a post-1997 benefit who were born between the 21st and 31st receive their payment on this day.
By activating Direct Deposit, retirees receive these checks on the same day the Social Security Administration sends them, regardless of whether they are Supplemental Security Income or any other benefit.
