The last month of the year 2023 is fast approaching and United States citizens with a Social Security benefit may already know on what day they will get their monthly payment. However, what many do not know is that they can get an extra check that gives them a little extra money to use for whatever they need.
To get the extra check, you must be a Supplemental Security Income beneficiary. This type of benefit is only available to certain United States citizens who meet several conditions. Without meeting these conditions, it is impossible to get this extra check from Social Security every month.
In the case of receiving it on a regular basis, we will find a surprise in the month of December, and that is that we will get two of these checks just by fulfilling one more requirement. That is, if we have Social Security and Supplemental Security Income we will be able to get up to 3 different checks in December as long as we meet another condition.
HOW TO GET UP TO $3,638 IN SOCIAL SECURITY IN DECEMBER?
In order to understand that we have the possibility of getting up to $3,638 from Social Security in December we need to understand what is the average check for the retirement benefit and what is the maximum check for Supplemental Security Income.
On the one hand we have the average Social Security payment, which as of today in the last months of 2023 is $1,781. If we add to this the maximum SSI payment of $914 in December, we find ourselves with $2,695. But then we have to add to that an extra SSI payment coming at the end of December.
To that $2,695 we must also add a payment of up to $943 maximum January 2024 SSI that may arrive in December 2023. This is because January 1st, 2024 is a holiday, so the Social Security Administration will send out the check early on that day. If we activate Direct Deposit we can get the payment without any problems and, therefore, we will enjoy in December 3,638 if we take into account all the amounts named.
ALL RETIREMENT PAYMENTS IN DECEMBER
Now that we know when the December Supplemental Security Income payments will arrive, we should also consider on what days we might get our retirement benefit payments this month.
Here is the schedule for those payments:
- December 1st: Social Security payment for pre-1997 retirees.
- December 13th: This day is the payment for post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- December 20th: Retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of any month and with a benefit after 1997.
- December 27th: Last check of the month for retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st and a Social Security check from after 1997.
Remember that by activating Direct Deposit we will be able to meet the payment on the same day that the Social Security Administration sends it. If not, the payment will arrive in the days after those dates.
