One of the great advantages of collecting the monthly Social Security check is that we know we will have this monthly income in our checking account without delays, barring any surprises. The United States Government is responsible for sending these checks each month to the thousands of United States citizens who are eligible.
Likewise, we must also keep in mind that each payment day is key because each day has its own requirements. It is not enough to just have your Social Security check accepted to get the next August 28th payment. Certain requirements must be met, so we must keep this in mind when planning our household finances.
Social Security on August 28th
Each new Social Security collection day we may encounter different requirements. In this sense, it is easy to know if the new one of the checks is for us or not, since we only have to look at the mandatory requirements. If we fit within that group, the payment is for us. If not, the payment will come at a different time.
So, the requirements to get this new Social Security payment are:
- Have a retirement since after May 1997.
- To have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month.
By meeting these two requirements, we will directly enjoy the Social Security payment on August 28th, 2024. The payment will be the same amount as in previous months and the type of benefit will not matter in order to get it. However, if we do not meet both requirements, we will not be able to get the check and will have to wait until next month.
How do I increase my Social Security retirement checks?
If our Social Security retirement payment is too small, there is no way to get a larger check. Once we retire, we can’t change the amount we get each month. Therefore, retirement planning is really important if you want to be as well off as possible in your golden years.
If we have not yet retired, we can get a bigger monthly check. To do so, we must delay the retirement age, as well as work for at least 35 years with a good salary.
Even so, it is true that it is not easy to get the maximum check of $4,873 for retirement. In this sense, it is also true that we can apply for other additional payments from Social Security, such as Supplemental Security Income. This extra check can give us up to $943 more per month to use for whatever we need.
