One of the biggest advantages of cashing a monthly Social Security check is knowing the day of collection. That and the fact that it assures us that while we live in the United States or in some other compatible country we will be able to collect the new monthly check every month.
Knowing that we have economic stability with respect to the monthly payments is a relief. Therefore, knowing also the day on which we can get each of these checks is really reassuring.
In total, the Social Security Administration sends out up to four checks for four different groups of retirees. And each of those groups of retirees gets payment on a different day. It all depends on which group of retirees we belong to.
One of the best things about the Social Security Administration is the order in which the checks are sent out. The calendar follows a monthly schedule and with few exceptions the collection days are the same. Do you know which group of retirees you belong to?
Retiree groups not collecting Social Security in March
If you are part of groups 1, 2 or 3, you will not be able to collect the last of the Social Security payments for March. This last payment will be sent today and the Administration will only send it to group 4 beneficiaries.
In order to have a clearer idea, the best thing to do is to see what are all the requirements established to be part of each of these groups. These are the groups and the requirements:
- Group 1. Retirees prior to May 1997. If your benefit is prior to that date, you are part of this group.
- Group 2. In this group it is necessary to have the benefit since after May 1997. It is also necessary to have your birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- Group 3. As in group 2, we need to have the benefit since May 1997. On the other hand, our birthday must be between the 11th and 20th of any month.
- Group 4. The last group of the month to collect is post-May 1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month.
Today, March 27, only group 4 gets its benefit. All other groups collect a Social Security check on different days. These are the days, barring exceptions, when these groups of retirees collect their check:
- Group 1. 3rd day of the month.
- Group 2. Second Wednesday of the month.
- Group 3. Third Wednesday of the month.
- Group 4. Fourth Wednesday of the month.
It is also important to remember that these days are the days on which the Social Security Administration sends out checks. In other words, we will not always get the payment on the same day unless we activate Direct Deposit. Retirees without this collection method active will get payment in the days following the mailing.
