Before the end of 2024 millions of United States citizens will be able to get a new United States Social Security check. And this check will be the last for a large number of these people, as December checks run out for some of these groups.
Likewise, this check will also be the last for a large group of Americans who will get a maximum of $4,873. Thus, the maximum payments of this benefit will cease to be that amount and will become others. Similarly, after the payment on the 24th day, the amount will change for each and every American.
For this reason, receiving a check like the one we have been getting in 2024 will no longer be possible. On December 24th, those who meet specific requirements will get their last Social Security payment at the current amount. However, not meeting these requirements does not mean that we will not be able to collect the payment.
In total, the Social Security Administration will send out up to 4 different checks in December. These checks are retirement checks, but we may also get two other Supplemental Security Income payments. If we don’t get the payment on the 24th day we will get it at another time. Who will get their last Social Security Payment on December 24th?
Americans who have had a Social Security benefit since after 1997 may be able to collect this December 24th check. But this is not the only requirement to reach this amount, as another condition must also be met.
The two mandatory conditions that a retiree must meet to reach the last retirement payment on December 24th are:
- To have Social Security payment since after 1997. This requirement is good for three different payments during the month. So you can belong to one of the three groups if you have had a check since after that year.
- You must have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month. The second requirement is related to the beneficiary’s day of birth. Depending on the day we were born we get the payment on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month. This is not so in the case of having the payment since before 1997.
The amount of this check will be the usual 2024 amount, but that will change later from next year 2024, which will have the COLA included. Likewise, it is also possible to get another extra payment in December 2024, but we will need to meet different requirements.
Ho to get an extra check from the SSA in December?
In order to get this extra benefit we need to have Supplemental Security Income. This check goes only to the neediest United States citizens and to get it we must meet two requirements.
If we have a disability or are over 65 we can apply for SSI from Social Security. It is not necessary to have a retirement check to qualify for this payment, but it is necessary to have low income and have low resources.
If Supplemental Security Income is accepted, we may get an extra check in December. To be more precise, the Social Security Administration will send this payment on the 31th day of December. The payment will arrive on the same day only if we have activated Direct Deposit as a collection method.
