The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) has provided a lifeline to countless Americans, assuring them of financial support during their retirement years. As October approaches, many are eagerly awaiting their next payment, and the SSA has just announced the dates.
For many, Social Security benefits are more than supplemental income; they are the primary source of livelihood. As such, timely disbursement of these funds is crucial.
Those who reside in the U.S. and are entitled to retirement or disability benefits should mark their calendars. The first batch of Social Security pension payments is scheduled for the second week of October. However, the exact date of receipt will depend on the beneficiary’s date of birth.
Who receives the first Social Security payment?
It is essential to note that these are not Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, but regular Social Security benefits. Both retirees and the disabled are eligible. The SSA has categorized the disbursements into three batches based on dates of birth:
- October 11 (second Wednesday): for those born between the 1st and 10th of the month. Includes retired, disabled and blind.
- October 18 (third Wednesday): For those born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- October 25 (fourth Wednesday): The last batch, intended for those born between the 21st and 31st, will receive their installments.
For SSI beneficiaries, payments are scheduled as follows:
September 29: SSI payment for the month of October.
