United States citizens who want to start receiving a Social Security check must meet certain requirements. If these requirements are not met, it is impossible to apply for a benefit of any kind. This is important for all Americans to understand, as we cannot get a Social Security retirement check if we do not meet these minimum requirements.
As is normal, we all want to have the best retirement possible. This means having a good Social Security check during the golden years. If we don’t have this, we may have financial problems in the future. Therefore, we should focus at all times on getting the best possible check so that we can live as well as possible.
The requirements imposed by the Social Security Administration change a little over the years. But we will always have to meet minimum requirements, since the Administration does not provide benefits to all Americans who apply for them. In this sense, some citizens may be able to apply for other financial help that does not have these requirements, but having a monthly retirement check requires meeting certain objectives beforehand.
Requirements for a Social Security check in June 2023
Obtaining any of the checks from the Social Security Administration requires meeting prior goals. We’re talking right now about the age-based retirement check. For disability checks, it’s a very different story. Those benefits are different and have totally different requirements.
If we are thinking of applying for retirement by age we must take into account that it is mandatory to meet the following:
- Be 62 years of age or older.
- Have 40 work credits.
As for the first of these requirements, there is not much to explain, since it is quite simple. The minimum age to apply for retirement by age is 62 years old. Before that, we will not be able to ask to have a check for retirement by age. Even so, it is not advisable to ask for it at this age because we lose part of our money.
On the other hand, the 40 credits are equivalent to 10 years of work. This means that we are required to work for 10 years before we can start collecting any type of Social Security retirement. It is not mandatory to work for 10 years in a row. It can be sporadic work. As with the minimum age, working for only 10 years gives us a Social Security check, but not a big enough one.
When are the retirement payments in June?
The June retirement payments are divided into several weeks. The first of the payments is for pre-1997 retirees. These checks always arrive on the 3rd day of the month and June is no exception.
In this regard, post-1997 retirees receive the benefit in the following weeks, with the first of the payments being on the 14th day of June. The second payment for these groups is on June 21st and the last on the 28th of the month.
Currently, the maximum Social Security payment is $4,555 per month. Anyway, getting the minimum of the requirements will not help us to reach such a big check. To do so, we must maximize all aspects.
