67-year-old retirees will receive their first Social Security paychecks in February 2023

The United States Social Security Administration always publishes the dates of next year’s pension payments before the end of the current year. This is done so that all retirees can know in advance when they will receive their subsidies. Knowing when the checks will arrive in their pockets makes household financial organization much easier.

Despite what many retirees think, the Social Security Administration does not currently send physical checks to pensioners. SSA payments can only be received through electronic formats. Thus, there are two options for receiving checks. The first is through the bank account. On the other hand, there is also Direct Deposit, which is a method that sends the money immediately to the Direct Express card. This card is a debit card and can be used just like any other card in its category.

Schedule of Social Security benefits in 2023

Next we are going to look at the schedule of payments for Social Security retirement in 2023. These are the general payments, although there are exceptions. The payments on these dates are for claimants collecting their benefit as of May 1997.

  • March 2023: 8, 15, 22
  • April 2023: 12, 19, 26, 26
  • May 2023: 10, 17, 24

  • October 2023: 11, 18 and 25
  • November 2023: 8, 15, 22
  • December 2023: 13, 20, and 27

These are the days on which the Social Security Administration sends the money. This does not mean that retirees will receive benefits on these days, as it depends on the payment method chosen. With a bank account, it can take up to 3 days for the money to appear. With Direct Deposit, on the other hand, there is no waiting time, as it is automatic.

What day will the SSA send me my benefit?

On one of the above calendar days, the Social Security Administration will send you the benefit. To find out the exact day we only need to know our date of birth. Thus, there are three days in the payments, which are always the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month. Pay attention to this scheme to understand the day you will receive your Social Security check:

  • 2nd Wednesday of the month. Payment for retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month.
  • 3rd Wednesday of the month. Social Security sends payments on this day for retirees born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
  • 4th Wednesday of the month. Payments are for the retirement of seniors born between the 21st and 31st of the month.

It is important to note that the month of birth and the month of payment do not have to coincide. You do not have to be born in January to receive your January Social Security payment. You will receive your payment every month regardless of your month of birth. The only thing that is important in this case is the specific day.
