The United States Social Security Administration divides Disability beneficiaries into two major groups. On the one hand, there are beneficiaries prior to May 1997. On the other hand, there are retirees with a benefit as of May 1997.
In turn, the group of retirees after May 1997 has a new division. This makes three groups within this same group. In short, in total there are four different groups of Social Security retirees who collect a benefit check once a month.
If we keep this in mind, we should also be aware that we can only get one of these checks monthly. It is not possible to get more than one retirement payment. It is different to get one Social Security Disability payment and one Supplemental Security Income payment, but for retirement only one check maximum per month.
Who can get the new disability payment and when does it arrive?
The day the Social Security Administration will send out this new Disability payment will be February 21st. This is the third Wednesday of the month, but it is the fourth week of the month. It is a little later than usual, but follows the usual structure of these payments.
In order to get this payment we must be part of the 3rd group of retirees. To be part of this group, two requirements must be met:
- To have the date of birth between the 11th and 21st day of any month.
- To have applied for retirement as of May 1997.
There is no other extra requirement for the Social Security Administration to send us a check on this day. What is important to keep in mind is that without Direct Deposit as the collection method, we will not get the payment immediately, but it will appear a few days later.
Can I increase my monthly SSDI payment?
The amount each person gets from the United States Disability benefit depends on a number of factors. For that reason, increasing the payment is not possible, as we find that the Administration assigns a check to each retiree based on his or her record.
Even so, we can get some extra payments such as the Supplemental Security Income. Thanks to this additional check we can get up to 943 dollars a month. If our income is low and we have a disability retirement, this payment could be for us.
In this way, we would get a new payment on a monthly basis. It is not a Social Security increase as such, but it is an extra check that can give us a little money to be able to have a greater economic solvency.
