In the next few weeks of 2025, citizens of the United States will not only see a change in the time on the clock due to Daylight Saving Time (DTS), but they may also receive a new Social Security check. And that new check will be larger than in the previous year 2024, so we should check all the requirements and maximum amounts.
If we bear in mind that every year we are going to be able to enjoy an increase in the COLA unless something unexpected happens, we can say that United States citizens with a benefit can have a little extra money at the beginning of each month. That extra payment is in respect of the same month of the previous year, of course.
So, if you have an accepted payment of Social Security benefits, you may soon receive a new check, either on the last day of February or in the first days of March. You have to look at which group you belong to in order to mark on the calendar the day you will get your next retirement check.
New Social Security check
This new Social Security check for the United States will arrive on February 26, 2025. The payment of this check will be higher than the payment of February 2024. This is because the COLA has increased all benefits since the beginning of the current year.
Thus, the maximum Social Security payment in 2025 could be $5,180, but that is only in the case of an old-age retirement benefit. Those who have a disability check can get a check for up to $4,018.
In any case, to get the payment on February 26th, you must be part of retirement group 4. And to be part of this group, there are two requirements:
- You must have been receiving a retirement check since after May 1997.
- Your birthday must be between the 21st and 31st of any given month.
There are no other requirements for this payment, so the type of benefit does not influence whether or not we will receive the Social Security payment at this time. The amount will not matter either in order to receive this payment. What is also important is to keep in mind that we will receive the same amount as in January 2025.
Upcoming Social Security payments
After the payment on February 26, 2025, we will be able to get a new Social Security check in March of this year. The exact day will change depending on the group to which we belong, as is often the case in these situations.
Thus, group 1 retirees will receive their benefit on March 3rd. Retirees in groups 2, 3 and 4 will receive their Social Security benefits on the 12th, 19th and 26th of the same month. Remember that this is the day the payment is sent, but whether or not you get it on the same day will depend on whether you have set up Direct Deposit.
