Wednesdays each month are usually good news days for retirees in the United States. That’s true for most Wednesdays and for all groups of Americans who have a Social Security benefit.
However, not all retirees get to celebrate their Social Security check on every Wednesday, nor does a new check reach those retirees every Wednesday. In this regard, there is always at least one Wednesday a month when the Social Security Administration does not send out a check.
This means that we must keep in mind that on this day we will not be able to collect any benefits. With this in mind we must make our financial plans for the month, so we must watch out to have enough money to live on for the entire month.
Regardless of whether or not the Administration sends out a Social Security check on a particular Wednesday, any pensioner with an accepted pension will get their check during the month. Some will get their check earlier and some will get their check later, but it is certain that everyone will collect their pension without any problems.
WHY NO SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS TODAY, WEDNESDAY?
The reason there are no Social Security payments on Wednesday, October 4th is basically because of the usual timing of benefit payments. Retirement checks arrive on different days and the calendar is set up based on what day the month starts. For that reason, there are no payments available today.
In order to understand this better, let’s look at the October payment days:
- October 3rd. This payment has been sent for retirees with a pre-1997 benefit. The check always arrives on the 3rd day of the month, although sometimes payment arrives earlier if the 3rd day is a weekend or holiday. In that case, the Administration pays this pensioner’s pension on the immediately preceding working day, which is usually the 2nd or 1st of the same month.
- The rest of the payments are for retirees after 1997 and are made in the following weeks, always starting on the second Wednesday of the month. For this reason, there are no payments on the first Wednesday of October.
- October 11th. Second Wednesday of the month. This payment is for retirees born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- October 18th. The Social Security Administration sends this payment to retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- October 25th. Fourth Wednesday of the month. Payment of this check is for retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st.
Thanks to this calendar we can understand why Social Security is not sending any checks today. We can also see the complete October payment schedule to help us organize our household finances.
