It’s been a while since the last update on California’s stimulus check, an economic relief initiative approved in 2022 to assist state residents in offsetting inflationary pressures. However, in the latter half of September, the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) revealed that there were 5,000 pending payments. Here’s a breakdown of when these checks will be sent out.
The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) announced that all these payments would be dispatched during September and, at the latest, by the beginning of October 2023. Notably, the stimulus check will be sent out in the form of preloaded debit cards.
The Middle-Class Tax Refund provides direct payments to millions of beneficiaries in California, ranging from $200 to $1,050. These payments began being distributed to eligible taxpayers from October 2022. To date, while the majority of the relief funds have been disbursed, 5,000 payments remain outstanding.

This economic relief was officially termed the Middle-Class Tax Refunds of California but is popularly known as the “inflation relief.” Most eligible residents received their funds almost a year ago. The only outstanding task is the delivery of the 5,000 payments currently being processed, set to commence by the end of September 2023.
Stimulus Check Distribution Dates for California Residents
Once September concludes, there might be a few exceptional cases where payments are reissued, for instance, if someone loses their debit card. However, the tax agency has stated that no new payments will be issued after this date.
How are the Payments Structured?
The payment amounts vary based on individual taxpayer conditions, ranging between $200 and $1,050. The initial California stimulus checks were sent out from October 7, 2022. According to the FTB, around 7.2 million direct deposits have been made so far, and approximately 9.6 million debit cards have been mailed out.
