The Social Security payment schedule is something that all retirees in the United States should be aware of. It is important to know what day the Administration will send out the next check. It is also important to know who will be able to receive those checks. Knowing these two details will allow Social Security beneficiaries to effectively organize their finances.
Regardless of the type of benefit we have, we may receive a check for the next payment. Social Security does not divide these payments among different retirees. SSA’s separation of beneficiary groups depends on two factors. One is the year of retirement. On the other hand, the date of birth.
Apart from these two elements, there is nothing else to consider. They are the only factors that determine the day a beneficiary receives his or her monthly pensioner’s check. So to determine which day we will collect the payment we only have to take these two factors into account. And one of them is more determinant than the other, since it is the factor that divides retirees into two large groups.
Which group cannot collect the next Social Security payment?
These two major groups are divided based on the date of retirement. The year 1997 is the line that separates the groups of retirees. On the one hand, these are beneficiaries who have had the benefit since before that date. On the other hand, these are beneficiaries who applied for retirement after that year.
All retirees who applied for the benefit before 1997 will not be able to receive the next payment. This is due to the fact that this group receives their check from Social Security only on the 3rd of each month. It is also possible to be paid a little earlier if there is an irregularity in the calendar. But this is not the norm.
The rest of the retirees, those who have received their benefits since 1997, are divided into three different groups. Each of these three groups collects check on a different day of the month. These days are always the second, third and fourth Wednesday. In this case, the next of the payments will be the third Wednesday. To be exact, July 19.
In addition to having the benefit since after 1997, retirees must have the day of birth between the 11th and 20th of the month. There is no other requirement for Social Security to send this check. However, to receive it on the same day it is sent, Direct Deposit must be activated.
Other pensioner’s payments in July
The July 19th payment will be the second-to-last payment of the month. However, the Social Security Administration has previously sent two other separate payments. On the 3rd it sent the payment to pre-1997 retirees, as discussed above.
In addition to that day, July 12th was also a collection day for a group of retirees. Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month, in addition to having retirement since after 1997, received their check.
Finally, after the payment on July 19, the payment on July 26 will be made. On this last Wednesday of the month, the Social Security Administration will send checks to post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month.
