New Scam Alert for Medicare Users – Be careful with your data

Scams for both Social Security and Medicare users are very common and one must watch out not to fall into the trap

Medicare scams are a current thing nowadays - CANVA

All the information surrounding Medicare is very confusing in most cases. Social Security users can find themselves in trouble on more than one occasion because of the large amount of false information out there about Medicare and all of its plans. Since there is also a premium side, information from both the internet and advertising can be very difficult to understand. There are retirees, in this sense, who do not fully understand the system and may fall into the trap of reverting all their important information.

That is why we must be very careful when using our Social Security and Medicare card information. Medicare enrollment is open until December 7. So, right now there are a lot of somewhat misleading marketing tactics out there that promise an advanced Medicare plan, but don’t actually cover the things they promise.

Any kind of information we give out regarding Social Security should be done very carefully. But information theft is not the only thing that matters in this case. On top of that, we may end up in a Medicare plan that doesn’t give us what it actually promises. So, we can sign a contract that only drains money from our pension without really giving us useful benefits. We must be very vigilant about all of this so that no company will take us for a ride.

How do you avoid Medicare scams?

Gretchen Jacobson of the Commonwealth Fund said, “It’s a very complicated environment where people are getting information from companies that are also selling them plans. It’s important we find a way to protect and inform consumers.” With these words, Jacobson intends to raise awareness among all Social Security seniors who plan to have a premium plan with Medicare.

On the other hand, Kathryn A. Coleman, director of the agency’s Drug and Health Plan Contracts Management Group, said in an open letter that “CMS is concerned about the marketing practices of all entities, including third-party marketing organizations.”

The main thing in these cases is to look very carefully at what plans the company we want to contract with offers. It’s not a good idea to go all out on this issue, as we could pay a large amount of money only to end up not having everything we need covered.

We must keep our information away from any kind of scam. In addition to that, as reported in the LA Times, it is not only important the information theft, but also the possible monthly payment that does not offer any real benefits. This is happening in many of the plans offered by the company, so before contracting anything it is a good idea to read all the documents well.
