Supplemental Security Income benefits always reach the pockets of the neediest United States citizens. This type of benefit helps Americans with less purchasing power to have enough money to pay for all their monthly expenses. So, in this sense, it is fully compatible with Social Security retirement checks.
In fact, a retiree can receive two Social Security checks every month because one of them can be Supplemental Security Income. In addition to that, in exceptional months a beneficiary could receive up to 3, as long as there is an irregularity in the payment schedule. But usually a person with a pensioner can receive both a pension check and a Supplemental Security Income check.
Still, millions of citizens wonder if it is possible to cash more checks in addition to Supplemental Security Income. And the short answer is yes, although there are exceptions. Each case is completely individual, so we must consider each American’s income. Do you get a check in addition to SSI every month?
Can I combine Supplemental Security Income with other federal payments?
Stimulus checks are part of the payments the federal government sends to its citizens. In addition to these stimulus checks, which can be for various reasons, there are also tax rebates and other types of financial help. These types of income are fully compatible with our Supplemental Security Income check, at least a priori.
In order to get an SSI payment, two requirements must be met. The first is that you must be at least 65 years old or have a disability. The second requirement is low income. If you meet both of these requirements, you will be eligible to receive Supplemental Security Income every month.
For that reason, whether or not you receive any other type of financial help from the federal government doesn’t really matter. Still, to avoid scares and unpleasant surprises, the best option is to contact the Social Security Administration and announce that extra income through a stimulus check.
If we don’t report all the income we may lose our Supplemental Security Income check for good at some point. So better safe than sorry.
When does Social Security SSI arrive?
SSI checks always arrive on the 1st of each month. This is the general rule, but it can change slightly if there is an irregularity in the calendar. When the 1st of the month is a weekend or holiday, the Administration sends out the check on the immediately preceding business day.
For this reason, there are months in which a retiree may receive up to three checks. When the Supplemental Security Income payment arrives earlier, the mailing day is always the last business day of the previous month.
In the case of July, we have this irregularity in the calendar. That is why we did not have an SSI payment on the 1st of July. The check arrived in the pockets of the retirees last June 30th.
