Only three days remain for Virginia residents to finalize the filing of their 2022 state tax returns, which will qualify them for a potential tax rebate of up to $400.
It is imperative that tax returns are filed with the Commonwealth of Virginia by the extended November 1 deadline to qualify for potential rebates. This extension provides an additional six months beyond the normal deadline, set for May 1, 2023, to complete the filing of Virginia state tax returns for 2022.
It is important to note that those taxpayers who filed their returns by the regular deadline do not need to take additional steps to obtain a refund, as long as they meet the established requirements.
Refunds of up to $400 are expected
Refunds will be worth up to $200 for single filers and up to $400 for joint filers, depending on the state. Not all taxpayers in the state will be eligible for the refund, but those with a tax liability will be eligible. The state provides a website for Virginia residents to check if they are eligible for the refund.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) announced that the tax refund distribution would begin Wednesday for eligible Commonwealth taxpayers. The distribution will be ongoing for a three-week period, according to the state.
“We are excited to announce that tax refunds will begin distribution in the coming days,” Youngkin said in a statement. “As Virginians continue to face inflation and high prices as a direct result of Washington, DC policies, these refunds are an important step heading into the holiday season to help Virginians keep more of their hard-earned money for gas, groceries and essentials”.
“My administration has delivered more than $5 billion in tax relief to Virginians, and we are pleased that these refunds will provide needed relief to Virginians,” he added.
Tax refund payments will be sent to taxpayers by direct deposit or paper check, depending on how they got their refund.
