One of the great advantages of cashing a Social Security check in the United States is that you can know exactly when you will get the money. The Administration announces the calendar at the beginning of each year, something that facilitates the financial organization of households.
So with a simple glance at that calendar we can find out if the next retirement payment is for us or not. It is a very simple exercise to do that makes life incredibly easy, since it lets us know when we will be able to enjoy the money from the Social Security benefit.
And in this sense, it doesn’t matter if our check is for retirement due to age, retirement due to disability or for other reasons. What is important in these cases are two pieces of personal information: the year of retirement and the date of birth. With only these two pieces of information, any retiree in the United States can mark in each month of the calendar the day on which they will receive their benefit.
WHEN WILL I COLLECT SOCIAL SECURITY?
Depending on the year of your retirement, you will fall into one group or another. The Administration divides Social Security beneficiaries into two major groups. The first of these groups is the pre-1997 group. If you got your check before that year, your payment will arrive on the 3rd day of January.
If your benefit is after that year, you belong to the second large group of retirees. And this second large group is further divided into three different groups. Each of these groups is determined by the beneficiary’s birthday. So depending on the day we were born we will get the payment earlier or later.
The payout days are always on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month for these groups, with few exceptions. This way we can also mark on the calendar the future checks we will get in the next few weeks.
UPCOMING RETIREMENT PAYMENTS IN JANUARY 2024
In addition to the January 3rd payment, which is only for pre-1997 retirees, the Social Security Administration will send other payments to different groups of beneficiaries. Just by taking a look at the calendar we will be able to know on which day we will receive our benefit.
Thus, these will be the payment days in January 2024:
- January 10th.
- January 17th.
- January 24th.
Retirees after 1997 will receive the payment on these days. Citizens with birthdays between the 1st and 10th will get payment on January 10th. Social Security will reach beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th on the 17th of January. Finally, retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month will receive their check on the 24th of January.
