One of the great advantages of having a calendar with Social Security payments is that we can know in advance on which day United States citizens receive their monthly check. This monthly payment arrives in different mailings to Americans. Each mailing is for a different group that receives their Social Security check on a different day.
To this we have to add that each of these groups are made up of retirees of all types. In other words, a Social Security disability beneficiary and an old-age retiree may belong to the same group of retirees. What is important in these cases is not the type of retirement, but other data related to the retiree’s personal background.
In order to determine which group of retirees we belong to, we only need to check our personal information. On the one hand we find the date of retirement. On the other hand, the date of birth. These are the two main factors used to determine the day on which a beneficiary collects his or her monthly Social Security check.
Which group of retirees receives the new Social Security?
The next of the Social Security checks will arrive in just a few days. The first group is the one that will have this payment in their pocket. In order to belong to the first group of beneficiaries and retirees it is only necessary to meet one requirement.
This requirement is none other than having applied for retirement before 1997. If our benefit is prior to this year, the next retirement check will be ours. And it does not matter if the retirement is due to age, disability or any other reason.
When will pre-1997 retirees receive their benefits?
The first retirement benefit payment will be mailed on June 2. The Social Security Administration usually sends out checks for these retirees on the 3rd of the month. However, we find that the 3rd of June is a weekend. So the payment is sent on the immediately preceding business day.
The biggest problem with this is that the remittance will be sent on a Friday. For beneficiaries with Direct Deposit this does not mean any delay, but this will not be the case for retirees who do not have this collection method activated. We can receive the money by classic bank transfer, but this will mean that the money can take up to 3 days to arrive. This is at least usually the case.
But since the payment is on a Friday and there is a weekend right after, some banks might have the money a bit later. So to the usual waiting days you would have to add some more. Therefore, it could take up to 5 days for the money to appear, although it is not certain that this will be the case.
