Find out if you are in the list of the new Social Security check

During the month of May 2025, millions of Social Security beneficiaries in the United States will receive new payments. However, not all retirees will receive their check at the same time. As usual, the Social Security Administration (SSA) payment schedule follows a system based on birth dates, which allows monthly deposits to be organized into several groups.

One of the first to receive their benefits will be the group of people whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of any month. These beneficiaries are part of the second group of monthly payments and are scheduled to receive their money during the second week of May. This system, which the SSA has been implementing for years, allows for greater fluidity and prevents banking system crashes.

Payment schedule for those whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th

Retirees who began receiving their benefits after May 1997 and whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th will receive their next Social Security check on Wednesday, May 8, 2025. This date corresponds to the first group of staggered payments made by the SSA in the second, third, and fourth weeks of the month.

This payment includes both retirees and people receiving disability benefits (SSDI), provided they joined the system after the aforementioned deadline. If your payment does not arrive on the scheduled date, the SSA recommends waiting at least three days before filing a formal claim.

What to do if you do not receive your payment on time

If the deposit date arrives and the money is not available in your bank account or on your Direct Express card, it is best to contact your bank or card issuer directly. Often, delays are related to internal processing issues rather than the SSA.

If three business days pass without any news, then it is advisable to contact the Social Security Administration directly. This can be done by calling 1-800-772-1213 or visiting your local office. Having your information handy and reviewing your banking information can speed up the resolution process.

Social Security payments are a vital source of income for millions of people in the United States. Being aware of the payment schedule and understanding how it is organized can help you better plan your monthly expenses and avoid unnecessary surprises.
